We continue our Enneagram ConvoCast series with a beloved member of our community, Jesse! Jesse shares with Tom his motivations, fears, stress, and security as a Type One (the Perfectionist or Reformer). As a member of our YOB community, how does his One-ness manifest in the realms of sexuality, masculinity, and relating with other men?

Jesse discusses his inclination to order and perfection and how that has translated to a need to “clean up” before God, particularly with his sexuality. He shares his love for lists and how he’s only recently begun to prioritize tending to his sexual and gender identity. He talks about his messy stress path into Four as well as his security into Seven, including how he embraces a more spontaneous, adventure-seeking nature with his guy friends — but only for two hours at a time.

Listen to our full Enneagram conversation, and be sure to follow us these next few weeks as we dial around the Enneagram and talk to each type in our community!

About the Author

  • Jiminy Cricket lolol. Thank you Jesse! Amazing how the Gut Triad works! It was a few years back now but I took a paid version of the Enneagram. And that assessment listed out a bunch of granular data on me and also displayed for my top 3 types and percentages of those types. And the One rounds out my overall make-up with a pretty solid showing as my third highest personality. Definitely this is the part of me that struggles in work environments just like you discussed in the show. At the moment I’m working for a Seven and a Four and it’s BRUTAL!! I can’t reform a single thing because every week more chaos and emotions create infinite dysfunctional scenarios for us, Lol! I need the laughs apparently. Thanks for another great show in this series. I just crossed this task off my list. 😁💪

    • I’ve always been tempted to do the paid version just to get an even more in-depth analysis, though I wonder what all it would actually reveal since I’ve already invested so much time into my own Enneagram deep dives. Haha. Thanks for chiming in on these episodes with your Ennea thoughts, Mike! Excited to hear how your type’s episode lands with you.

      • Yeah I remember it with the same thoughts, though certainly you’re much more advanced in your Jedi studies than I am! It was $10 to take the one I signed up for and involved similar questions in a similar amount to what you can take for free. The most value from it was seeing the percentage breakdowns of the top 3 and whether or not you were healthy when you took the test. Because that skews the percentages higher or lower. The trait summaries didn’t tell me much beyond what I had already studied in a few books and deep dives on the types.
